Tide times vary along the
coast so unfortunately high tide at a beach in the South East
of Wales will be different to a break on Anglesey. Knowledge
of tide times is essential. Wales has some of the biggest tidal
ranges in the world (the Severn Estuary has the second biggest tidal
range anywhere) which directly effects the surf. If a certain break
only works over a specific reef/sandbar at high tide, you could have
a long wait if you turn up at the wrong time!
Tide times, while
essential information for surfers, are not there solely for
our benefit, and are calculated for ports and harbors, not for
your surf break. This means the trick is to find the nearest
harbor to the beach you want to surf...
...thankfully the map
below links the nearest port to the beach you want to surf, with a
free seven day tide table.
